Upon first listen of Gillian Welch's music, you may think that you are hearing songs from rural Appalachia in the 1930's, that is, if the production quality wasn't so great. Upon further investigation, you realize that these are original songs recorded in the between 1996 and 2003. Gillian's songwriting focuses on music from rural Appalachia in the early 1900s and is influenced by the likes of the Louvin Brothers, Bill Monroe, and The Carter Family. Yet, the music is all her own. Gillian has somewhat single-handedly started a revival of this type of music; largely due to the inclusion of her music in the blockbuster film 'O Brother, Where Art Thou' which resulted in a traditional American folk revival in which Gillian stands front and center. Welch is accompanied only by David Rawlings who plays a distinctive style of guitar while also lending patented subtle harmonies, rounding out Gillian's vocals perfectly. It only takes one show for you to fall in love with both their music and their playful personalities. We can't express how proud we are to be working with such nice down-home people who are creating a new landmark for this old-time music. We're also proud to have created a custom downloads store for the distribution of exclusive rare and previously unreleased tracks to Gillian's fans, because just like everyone else, we can't get enough!
