Since 1991, Greg Loiacono has been lending his vocals and
guitar work to the California rock band The
Mother Hips which he co-founded
with lead singer Tim
Bluhm. In 2002, after ten years with the Mother
Hips, Greg decided to take an infinite hiatus from the
band to pursue some solo projects and dedicate more time
to his family. During this time, he released the homespun
'Purgatory EP' which he recorded largely by himself
with the help of Hips bassist Paul Hoaglin. But it wasn't
until the end of 2005 that we saw the phenomenal release
from Greg's new band SENSATIONS which released 'Listen
to My Shapes', a project Greg had been working on
for over a year again with Hoaglin along with drummer
Todd Roper (formerly of CAKE). The record has been received
extremely well by fans and the press: "Recorded
by Paul Hoaglin on his 1"8-track
tape deck over the last year, 'Listen
To My Shapes' has
a fresh modern approach to garage rock that meets the
psychedelic harmonies of the British Invasion complete
with clever lyrics and strong melodies. This band is
the real deal."
(Chuck Gonzales, Mesh Magazine) Since the release of 'Listen
to My Shapes', the Mother Hips have re-formed and have
released their first recording in five years, the 'Red
Tandy' EP with a full-length set to be released in
early 2007, but Loiacono still uses his band Sensations
as a seperate musical outlet. With Sensations, Greg has
proven he can step to play the lead role, and play it with
authority.
Greg has been performing
in the quiet town of Novato where he currently resides
in an attempt to jumpstart the music scene out there. Sensations
can be seen performing for free for local Novato fans as
well as anyone who wants to make the short drive up from
the Bay Area. In other news, 'Listen to My Shapes' will
be officially released by Camera Records, who have already
released the album on Limited Edition 180 Gram audiophile
vinyl.
Greg
Loiacono and Tim Bluhm finished
up recording the second Ball-Point Birds record which
will come out sometime in 2007. It was recorded at the
same studio where the Mother Hips release 'Back to
the Grotto '
was recorded in 1991.
