First formed in Chico, CA, back in 1991, The Mother Hips released 3 records on Rick Rubin's American Recordings from 1994-1997, and built a following the old-fashioned way, touring constantly and letting word-of-mouth do the talking, with fans left buzzing after tours with Johnny Cash, Wilco and on the H.O.R.D.E. tour. Now residing in and about the Bay Area, the current Mother Hips line-up consists of singer/guitarist Tim Bluhm, singer/guitarist Greg Loiacono, bassist Paul Hoaglin and drummer John Hofer. If the Hips sound creatively energized amidst all the harmony-drenched, California-baked rock, it's because they are.

The Hips are hunkered down in the studio mixing their new record in San Francisco. They wrapped up tracking sessions in late May, and are now focused on getting the right mixes together. The release date for the new LP is looking like the early side of 2007 (Feb/March), with some national touring to follow. We'll keep you posted.....
In the meantime, the Hips released their first recordings in four years featuring songs written both collaboratively and separately, and is an excellent appetizer for a new full-length LP slated to be issued early in 2007.
